The Hyundai Motor Company was established in in 1967 in Seoul, South Korea, and initially operated under contract to the Ford Motor Company assembling Fort Cortinas and Granadas for the South Korean market. In 1975, the company developed its first indigenous Korean car, the Pony, and soon other successful models followed. Rapid expansion saw the development of production plants outwith Korea and major facilities have been established in Canada and the USA.
