Chrysler

Walter P Chrysler founded the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit in 1925 and the new carmaker quickly earned a reputation for advanced engineering. In 1928 the company expanded with the purchase of the Dodge marque and the creation of the DeSoto and Plymouth divisions. In the late 1980s, Chrysler purchased the American Motors Corporation which netted the company the Jeep brand. In 1998, German-based Daimler-Benz merged with Chrysler to form Daimler Chrysler. Chrysler was in turn sold by Daimler to a private equity group in 2007.
